On Gratitude and Growth

We often give thanks for what feels good. But what if gratitude is also meant for the things that didn’t go to plan? This reflection explores how growth and gratitude work together — one expanding us, the other rooting us — to make personal evolution more sustainable and sacred.

Gratitude is often spoken about as a feeling… a fleeting warmth that moves through us when something goes right. But deep gratitude, the kind that transforms us, is less about what’s happening and more about how we choose to see what’s happening.

This year, I’ve learned that gratitude and growth are inseparable. Growth invites us into unfamiliar territory, and gratitude roots us there. One expands us; the other steadies us. Together, they create the balance that makes evolution sustainable.

When I look back over this recent season of Personal Evolution, what I feel most deeply is appreciation. Not just for the moments that felt aligned and clear, but for the messy middle…. the waiting, the redefinition, the letting go. Gratitude, I’ve realized, isn’t reserved for the good parts. It’s the practice that transforms every part into meaning.

A few weeks ago, I sat outside in the fading light, reflecting on how much has changed in me over the past few years. Not in loud, visible ways, but quietly….  like the way the seasons shift without asking permission. I could feel how life had been reshaping me through every challenge, every pause, every choice to stay open instead of closing off and every single choice to trust the unfolding.

That’s the gift of presence: you begin to see how growth is always happening, even when it doesn’t announce itself. And even when it is still unclear.

As we close this month and this chapter of reflection on Personal Evolution, I want to leave you with this thought: the more we practice gratitude for where we are, the more life trusts us with what’s next.

Gratitude expands the soul’s capacity to receive.

It makes space for the next evolution to emerge.

And that’s where we’ll go next month… into the Practice of Presence.

Because once you’ve awakened and evolved, the next step is to live it.

Reflection for You

Take a few moments today to reflect:

What are you most grateful for that didn’t go as planned?

And how has that experience grown you?

Write freely. Gratitude deepens when it’s witnessed in your own words.

May your strength always be infused with serenity and remember….

Your Soul Belongs In Everything
