Becoming

We often enter the new year asking: “Who do I want to become?” But becoming isn’t something you decide once — it’s something you notice in the quiet. This reflection offers a gentler path into the new year, rooted in presence over pressure and awareness over urgency.

The start of a new year tends to whisper a familiar question: Who do you want to be now?

It sounds innocent enough. Motivating, even.

But over time I’ve learned that this question often creates more pressure than clarity.

Becoming is not something we decide in a moment.

It’s something we notice over time. And often through reflection.

Lately, I’ve been paying attention to how often people (myself included) feel unsettled at the beginning of a new chapter. Not because something is wrong, but because something old no longer fits and something new hasn’t fully revealed itself yet.

That space can feel uncomfortable. We label it uncertainty. Restlessness. Lack of direction.

But more often than not, it’s simply the middle of becoming.

We tend to think of becoming as transformation. A dramatic shift. A before-and-after story we can explain neatly.

In reality, becoming is quieter than that.

It shows up as small internal adjustments.

A different response than you would have had last year.

A boundary that forms naturally instead of being forced.

A growing resistance to what once felt acceptable.

None of this announces itself loudly. It doesn’t come with instructions.

And that’s where we usually rush in with answers.

But becoming doesn’t respond well to being rushed.

It asks for presence more than planning.

So instead of asking who you need to become this year, I’ll offer a gentler question:

What are you already becoming aware of?

Not what you want to fix.

Not what you think should change.

Just what you’re noticing.

What feels different?

This question is what inspired the Becoming journal booklet. I created it not to help people define their next version, but to give them a quiet place to listen while something unfolds.

If you want a simple companion for this season, the Becoming booklet will be available soon. It’s designed to be visited slowly, without pressure to complete.

Becoming doesn’t require certainty.

Only honesty and attention.

Here's to your own continued Becoming

May your strength always be infused with serenity and remember….

Your Soul Belongs In Everything
